Brief History of the Council

Formation

At the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka-Malaysia Business Council was formed on February 23, 1994. This was the 12th Business Council to be formed under the aegis of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. The main objective of this Council is to promote trade, joint ventures, tourism and services between Sri Lanka and Malaysia.

Her Excellency Nazirah Hussain, High Commissioner for Malaysia is the Patron of the Council.

The Objectives of the Council

1. To promote trade, tourism and services  between Sri Lanka and Malaysia and in particular to promote exports from Sri Lanka to Malaysia.
   
   
2. To encourage the establishment of joint ventures in Sri Lanka between Malaysian and Sri Lankan investors.
   
   
3. To exchange information on trade and investment with the appropriate bodies in Malaysia.
   
   
4. To conduct joint meetings with Malaysian business organisations in Sri Lanka and Malaysia.
   
   
5. To serve as a recognised representative of business sector interests in Sri Lanka in matters concerning business relationships with Malaysia.
   
   
6. To co-operate with the Government of Sri Lanka in the pursuit of the above objects.
   
   
7. To undertake all matters that are incidental or conducive to attaining the above objects.
